Efficient, comfortable tourist spaces tailored to the traveller experience

At Cubic General Contractor, the construction company of Grupo Cubic, we delivered the complete hostel refurbishment for Ella Hostel, located in the very heart of Barcelona. A project that involved the integrated transformation of a disused property into a modern, elegant and functional tourist space, designed to deliver a contemporary, welcoming and highly efficient accommodation experience.

The works were developed over a floor area of 280 square metres and completed in just 2 months, strictly meeting the quality, timeline and aesthetic standards required by the owner.

Smart design: space efficiency and warmth

From the outset, the project had a clear goal: optimise every square metre and create a balanced environment between the practical and the emotional. The result is a hostel that integrates:

• Spacious, bright rooms, with finishes in neutral tones and minimalist furniture.

• Functional common spaces, such as reception, the central corridor and the self-service area.

• Wet areas (bathrooms and showers) with elegant design, durable materials and contemporary matt black taps.

Herringbone wood flooring, warm recessed lighting and the use of natural wood in doors, furniture and finish details reinforce a calm, sophisticated aesthetic that connects with the Mediterranean atmosphere.

Rooms that breathe light and order

One of the project’s great strengths was giving rooms a sense of spaciousness, order and visual comfort. Each bedroom was designed with:

• Double or single beds, perfectly aligned beneath a backlit wooden headboard.

• Minimalist desk with an ergonomic chair and wall-mounted TV.

• Open, functional metallic wardrobes.

• Large windows opening to outdoor balconies, allowing natural light and cross ventilation.

Bathrooms, showers and toilets: function and aesthetics in balance

The wet areas were designed with criteria of durability, hygiene and user experience. Each bathroom features:

• Large-format ceramic wall coverings.

• Black bowl-style basins on a suspended countertop.

• Shower screens with matt black profiles and thermostatic taps.

• Suspended WC with concealed cistern and easy-to-clean neutral finishes.

Common areas: more than transit, an experience

The route from the main entrance to the rooms was designed as a visual and functional thread. Standout features include:

• A reception with curved counter, soft and integrated.

• Accent lighting with minimalist pendant luminaires.

• Waiting areas with comfortable seating and acoustically controlled materials.

• Wide, smooth-flowing corridors that respect the privacy of every door.

Conclusion: a functional, carefully designed boutique hostel

The complete refurbishment of Hostel Ella has not only allowed an underused property to be recovered but has created an attractive, profitable space aligned with today’s urban tourism expectations.
